The gap between journalists and journalism funders becomes clearer as we consider the lack of awareness about funding opportunities, for example, or the challenge of writing a grant application when used to writing journalistic copy. Thankfully, you can now help shape future communication in this space.

To help foster cooperation between journalists and donors, the European Journalism Centre has published a collaborative document outlining blueprints for building common initiatives.

The document resulted from discussions among participants of a Journalism Funders Forum event in Amsterdam, and sets out several proposals for practical solutions, such as databases of opportunities and grant writing consultants, unconferences, and newsletters outlining research.

The document is published under a Creative Commons license and readers are encouraged to share their thoughts and comments.

If you’re interested in philanthropy-funded journalism, whether as a reporter looking for grants or as a funder yourself, also take a look at this blog post pointing out 10 key problems in this space, published by Adam Thomas, director, European Journalism Centre.

The challenges highlighted in this post are also the problems that prompted the creation of the blueprints currently up for discussion in the collaborative document.
