RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds: many young journalists will have heard of them, but less will know how to make use of them.

While they are a relic of the internet, Fergus O'Loan, MA journalism student at City, University of London, provides a guide for journalists to make use of them today in a post on Interhactives.

He explains how news aggregator apps, such as Feedly, can make use of RSS feeds to provide a customised stream of news that the user wants to stay on top of.

"Even better, I can customise which publications I want to receive, similar to Twitter, without the murky algorithmic sorting," O'Loan writes.
