As the covid-19 pandemic worsens across the world, the number of cases and death continues to rise as countries report further spread of the disease.

Finding the latest figures of cases and deaths can be a challenge, with every hour bringing new updates.

To help American journalists with this, the Associated Press (AP) has teamed up with the Johns Hopkins University Center for Systems Science and Engineering to make US data publicly available.

The data takes the latest county-level cases reported in the US and calculates caseload and death rates per 100,000 people, with regular updates to the figures every hour.

AP, which is also offering an embeddable interactive visualisation with the data, is set to demonstrate ways to use the data in a webinar next week.
